Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (April 15, 1452 – May 2, 1519) was an Italian scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and writer.

Today he remains best known for his art, including two paintings that remain among the world’s most famous and admired, Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.

One reason I like Leonardo Da Vinci is because of his unique way of thinking. And all the amazing things he achieved during his lifetime.

I added him here because he is one of the most famous and well known painters of all time.

Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa was painted in Florence and is the most famous painting in the world.

The painting is called “Gioconda” as well because Mona Lisa was married for Francesco Bartolomeo del Giocondo.

The artwork was created between 1503 and 1506 and was painted on wood. The size (L x W) of the painting is: 53 x 77cm (20.87″ x 30.31″) and is exposed in the Louvre in Paris.

The most enigmatic of the portrait is that when you look at her face it seems Mona Lisa smiles, but when you look into her mouth, she does not smile.

Self Portrait

This painting is believed to be a self portrait by Leonardo Da Vinci but it's not proofed.

The painting was found in 2008 by Nicola Barbatelli, director of the Museo delle Antiche Genti di Lucania, in the private collection of an aristocratic family at Acerenza, a village on the river Bradano near Potenza in Basilicata. The family believed it to be a portrait of Galileo .

It was painted on a wooden panel and the dimensions are 40 cm × 60 cm (17 in × 24 in).

The exact date which this artwork was created is not known but it's guessed around 1505.

The Last Supper

The Last Supper is one of the world's most famous paintings, and one of the most studied, scrutinized, and satirized.

The painting's Dimensions are 460 cm × 880 cm (181 in × 346 in) and it's location is Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan

Leonardo began work on The Last Supper in 1495 and completed it in 1498. He did not work on the painting continuously.

The Last Supper was painted on a dry wall rather than on wet plaster, so it is not a true fresco.

Madonna Of The Rocks

Madonna of the rocks is also called Virgin of the Rocks.

The painting shows Madonna and Child Jesus with the infant John the Baptist and an angel, in a rocky setting which gives the paintings their usual name.

It was painted with oil on panel (transferred to canvas) and has the dimensions of 199 cm × 122 cm (78.3 in × 48.0 in)

This artwork was created between 1483–1486.

Madonna Of The Yarn-Winder

Nearly forty versions of the Madonna of the Yarnwinder made by pupils and followers of Leonardo survive today.

The composition of the Madonna of the Yarn-Winder shows the Christ child twisting his body away from his mother’s embrace, his eye caught by her yarnwinder whose spokes give it the shape of a cross; he precociously recognises it as a symbol of his destiny.

It was painted with oil on walnut and has the dimensions of 48.3 cm × 36.9 cm (19.0 in × 14.5 in).

This artwork is believed to be created between 1501-1507.
